Introduction

The HUB Community Center Working Group is comprised of six private citizens brought together by Mark Borrin and Kim Johnson to establish a focus on a needs-based approach to design, construct and equip a town owned Community center in Moultonborough.

THE HUB Community Group Members:

  • Laurie Whitley
  • Steve Watson
  • Heidi Kremser
  • Joanne Wilhelm
  • Kim Johnson
  • Mark Borrin

The group was formed privately as an off-shoot of the 2021 town meeting Article #16 – an article to create plans and cost estimation for building a Community Center in Moultonborough. The group has worked privately and has been presenting its findings to the Moultonborough Select Board periodically.

The hope is to merge the private group into a town Community Center Building Committee in the future. This town-sponsored group would bring the Community Center project forward along with the Select Board during the 2023 Town Meeting for a community vote.

The objective is to create a needs-based, town-owned Community, Activity & Aquatic Center for the Town of Moultonborough to include a function space with commercial kitchen, activity center for citizens of all ages, a multipurpose room, and aquatic center.

Plans & Location

Location

Situated on the Town owned property off Old Route 109 – aka – the Moultonborough Function Hall or former Lions club land, the building will comply with current town setbacks and will allow for the current building to operate and function as they are today while the new construction is being completed.

The current Function Hall operations will continue running while new construction is ongoing.

Plans

The building was designed to be one level for accessibility purposes for all requiring level ground and easy access to the building and internal rooms (with the exception of 18” rise for the function room stage and HVAC mezzanine). A one level approach also saves costs of stairwells/elevators and ramps occupying valuable floor space.

The Moultonborough Town Planner has indicated that a Storm Water Management plan shall be created during the planning period and prior to final plans being submitted to the voters.

Large Function Hall & Kitchen

With a large function space and commercial kitchen, The HUB can fully accommodate the Meals on Wheels program, as well as other functions. The space is designed for group meetings, private functions such as weddings, birthday parties, bridal or baby showers, business lunches/dinners and gatherings of all sizes, making it Moultonborough’s best location for functions.

Similar footprint to the current Moultonborough Function Hall

Additional office space for Meals on Wheels program

Entry coat rack and storage

Dividable space

ADA 18” stage-storage directly on stage for Lion’s Bingo Equipment

Commercial kitchen with walk-in refrigerator and freezer

Ample parking close to the Function Space for ease of entry, especially for Seniors

Adult Social Room

The adults-only space, designed with a cozy living room feel, is a great place for card games, socializing, watching movies or television, and more. Small meals and snacks can be prepared in the adjoining shared kitchenette space.

There is easy access to the divided function room for additional space, or it can be used simultaneously with the function rooms without impacting other groups.

Activity & Office Space

The Recreation and Leisure Department offices will be incorporated with a welcome desk. A comfortable meeting room can be used to host board meetings, club meetings, or smaller groups that do not need larger function room space.

The Craft/Makers Room is designed as a flexible space for creativity, play, and hands-on learning and creation. Great for formal and informal community groups who would like to explore their creativity in this space.

The Game Room will be equipped with billiards, ping pong, cards, and other games, as well as a family lounge area.

Aquatic Center

The Hub's Aquatic Center is an impressive, state-of-the-art, and fully accessible 11,000 square foot facility featuring a 25-meter 5-lane pool for swimming lessons, water aerobics, and water polo.

Additionally, the facility houses a 40-foot therapy pool with a ramped entrance for no-impact physical therapy.

This facility will promote life-long health development in an innovative, friendly, and well-maintained environment.
